Zack Snyder posts cryptic Henry Cavill Superman pic and teases DC project

Zack Snyder has intrigued fans after posting a cryptic photo of Henry Cavill with some words and a mystery date.

The director is behind a number of DC movies including Superman, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League.

Many hoped the announcement meant Henry Cavill was returning as Superman after all after announcing his departure at the end of 2022.

It doesn’t look like that’s the case, but Zack Snyder’s post certainly does hint at an exciting DC event. Here’s what fans think it could be…

Zack Snyder posts photo of Henry Cavill

Snyder posted a black and white image of Cavill as Superman on his VERO account, a popular social media platform.

On top, he wrote “MOS BVS ZSJL” which seemingly means Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League.

Then, he added: “Life is a cycle, from birth to death to rebirth. And so the hero’s journey is a cycle as well. A continuous journey of growth and transformation.”

At the bottom are three dates, April 28, 29 and 30, but he hasn’t explained what the cryptic post actually means.

What fans think the post means

The image has gone viral on Twitter where fans have some theories about what the exciting project could be.

One person said it’s an event called “Snyder-Con 2023” where his three DC films Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League are screened.

“I think this is leading to maybe a three night theatrical event for Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Snyder’s Justice League,” said another.

Someone else added: “It’s Syndercon and the movies will be shown, maybe on an IMAX screen there.”

Some others think it could mean all the SnyderVerse movies are going to be available to watch on Netflix.

Sadly, it doesn’t appear to be a new project with Henry Cavill and the background wasn’t a cryptic clue, but it’s exciting nonetheless.

This comes as talk on who will replace Daniel Craig is rife, with Aaron-Taylor Johnson topping the James Bond list right now.

Henry Cavill was once the favourite, with Idris Elba and Tom Hardy also having potential to play the British secret agent.

Henry Cavill not returning at Superman

Filmmaker James Gunn confirmed Henry Cavill would not play Superman in the next movie in December 2022 due to the storyline.

Superman: Legacy is due to be released in July 2025 and primarily focuses on the earlier part of the Superhero’s life, when he was younger.

“In the initial stages, our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill,” Gunn explained.

“But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

“I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman,” the actor then said in a statement.

Henry had already been told by the studio that he was returning months prior, but a change in leadership altered original plans.

James Gunn took over the DC movies from Walter Hamada, and Cavill said the news “isn’t the easiest but that’s life”.

“I respect that James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes,” the star added.

“My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

In other news, Matt LeBlanc is not dead, the actor is alive and well in 2023
