Visakhapatnam, Nov 5 (IANS) The YSR Congress Party has alleged that all sections of people, including farmers, are in distress in Andhra Pradesh due to the “apathy” and “incompetence” of the coalition government in dealing with disasters.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Botsa Satyanarayana told media persons here on Wednesday that the government has “completely failed” in handling the relief for cyclone-hit farmers, and termed the way the calculations were done as “shoddy”.
The former minister said the questions raised by YSRCP president and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy are relevant and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should be held “guilty”.
He said the government “failed” to protect the interests of farmers and when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy went to express solidarity with farmers, CM Naidu and his media started “propaganda”.
Jagan Mohan Reddy visited cyclone-hit areas of Krishna district on Tuesday and interacted with farmers whose crops were damaged.
He demanded that the TDP-led coalition government implement crop insurance for all farmers.
Accusing the coalition government of adopting “anti-farmer policies”, he said the implementation of the crop insurance scheme will provide relief to farmers suffering losses due to natural disasters.
He said the cyclone has damaged more than 15 lakh acres of crops in the state. Jagan said, farmers have suffered huge losses due to the destruction of 11 lakh acres of paddy crop.
The YSRCP leader alleged that the crop was not calculated properly to avoid compensation. The calculation was done hastily and came with several conditions, such as paddy would not be procured for those claiming crop insurance.
Botsa Satyanarayana also criticized Chief Minister Naidu for his comments on the Kashibugga temple stampede in which nine people lost their lives on November 1.
The YSRCP leader described CM Naidu’s remarks as highly condemnable and said that he “has not learned any lesson from the previous stampede incidents”.
Saying that the temple is private property only shows their “indifference” towards humanity. “CM Naidu’s regime and the attitude of his cadre is irresponsible,” the former minister said.
How could they be so “indifferent” towards the Kasibugga incident, he asked, adding that “the government did not learn any lesson from the Tirupati and Simhachalam incidents”.
