Youths used as youth, who were provoked violence, will be identified: Ladakh LG (IANS Interview)

New Delhi, October 3 (IANS) Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta said on Friday that the central region is quiet and normal after a sudden outbreak of violence last month. He said that the administration is cautious and on its toes to ensure that they do not benefit from their profit opportunities again due to trouble.

In a special conversation with IANS, Ladakh LG claimed that young people were used as claws during the September 24 violence in UT and the administration was in the process of identifying and separating the provocatives for necessary action.

Below are full parts of the interview:

IANS: How is the situation in Ladakh today? Who instigated the violence there?

Kavinder Gupta: The violence that took place in Ladakh on 24 September was very unfortunate and sad, resulting in loss of four young life. I express my deep grief.

Those youth were used as pieces. This should not have happened. We are committed to maintaining peace and calm in Ladakh. There are some people who do not want Ladakh to be peaceful.

The situation has been brought under control. We are also getting support from common people. Overall, the current situation is peaceful. However, it is necessary to identify and separate the violence, to maintain peace and calm in the province and to ensure that such an outbreak does not recur. However, innocent people will not be damaged at all.

IANS: What is your reaction to the refusal of Ladakh top body to interact with the central government?

Kavinder Gupta: Even in the past, all problems in Ladakh have been solved through talks. Dialogue remains only the way forward and only communication can solve all problems.

IANS: Sonam Wangchuk’s wife has written a letter to the President and the Prime Minister, demanding her immediate release. What is your reaction to this?

Kavinder Gupta: I have also received his wife’s letter. However, any action by the Ministry of Home Affairs should be based on reliable evidence obtained under the National Security Act (NSA). There will be an investigation.

Good work done by Sonam Wangchuk should be appreciated. However, it is also a matter of investigation that in a single day, how sudden violence increased in peaceful Ladakh. If we had not stopped violence within one and a half hours, Leh would have been burnt. Who were the people behind it? This is a matter of investigation.

IANS: Will this violence affect Ladakh’s tourism?

Kavinder Gupta: I assure you that the situation will improve. Local people are also saying that the atmosphere deteriorated due to some persons. It is a border state, so such incidents should not happen again and will not. The people of Leh-Lakh always stood shoulder to shoulder with the country during 1965, 1971 and Kargil wars and Galvan Valley Clash. The deaths of four people are a lesson for us. It is important to find out who provoked violence. An inquiry will be done.

IANS: Opposition parties are crying on the arrest of Sonam Wangchuk? What is your response?

Kavinder Gupta: Everyone knows who is trying to weaken the country. From Shaheen Bagh to “General Z”, the public has seen and recognized those who try to incite public sentiments. Efforts were made to provoke others by citing the example of Nepal, but people rejected them. There were efforts to spoil the decent traditions of Ladakh, but we would not allow them to do so. Yes, there was a mistake, but such a mistake would not happen again.

IANS: How do you see the RSS completing 100 years?

Kavinder Gupta: Any organization can remain only when its foundation is strong. The RSS has neither casteism nor religious fanaticism.

The RSS has always stood in the national interest. It is working in the same way as Dr. in 1925. Was installed by Hedarwar. I consider myself lucky.

Whatever I have learned is from the RSS. Those who see the Sangh only from a distance, question them, but those who have seen the Sangh closely have always respected it.
