Srinagar, July 6: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, VK Burdi said on Sunday that the Jammu and Kashmir Police has made detailed arrangements to ensure the smooth and peaceful route of Kashmir processions to ensure the smooth and peaceful route of the Kashmir procession.
Speaking to reporters during his visit to Bota Kadal in Srinagar, the 10th Muharram (Ashura) Zuljana procession began this morning, IGP Burdi said that all necessary security and logistic system have been finalized.
IGP Burdi said, “Srinagar Police has made a detailed arrangement for the peaceful observation of UM-e-Ashura. Also, the traffic police has ensured a smooth vehicle movement by diversity and traffic regulation,” said the IGP Burdi.
He said that special focus has been focused on maintaining coordination in various areas of the city. He said, “Traffic divers are designed to reduce discomfort by ensuring that the Ashura procession continues without any disruption,” he said.
The IGP said, in other parts of Kashmir, traffic regulation points and nearby have been arranged as well as to facilitate local processions and ceremonies.
Earlier in the morning, thousands of Shia condolences gathered here to join the Zulzanah procession in Botkadal in memory of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (AS) and his comrades in Karbala.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also joined the condolence meeting and formally wrapped the Zulzan with traditional chadars before the procession began.
Senior police and civilian officers were also present on the occasion.
