New Delhi, Oct 26 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday assured devotees of a memorable Chhath festival this year and claimed that extensive preparations have been made for the Purvanchal brothers and sisters at all Yamuna ghats from Palla to Kalindi.

Chief Minister Gupta said in a video message posted on Twitter, “After many years, our brothers and sisters will be able to worship the Sun on the banks of Yamuna ji and offer Arghya to the Sun. We have made extensive preparations… Hearty greetings to all of you. I pray to Chhathi Maiya that her blessings remain on all of us.”

Earlier, Art and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra along with BJP Delhi President Virendra Sachdeva visited several Chhath Ghats across Delhi to review the arrangements and inspect the preparations.

He inspected arrangements at Mayur Vihar Ghat, Ashok Nagar, Kondli, and Trilokpuri. Later, he visited Vasudev Ghat, where CM Gupta was also present.

Together they reviewed the status of cleanliness, lighting, security, tent installation, water level and traffic management. The minister also inspected many other ghats including Sonia Vihar.

Mishra said that this year there is extraordinary enthusiasm for Chhath Puja throughout Delhi.

He said that the Delhi government has ensured all necessary facilities at more than 1,300 Chhath Ghats this year. Officials from the administration, municipal body, water board, police and sanitation department are continuously deployed at the ghats to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the devotees.

The minister said that this year the Delhi government has paid special attention to the cleaning and beautification of the banks and ghats of river Yamuna.

Each ghat is equipped with adequate lighting, safety measures, drainage facilities and medical teams deployed by the health department. Local representatives, councillors, officers and voluntary organizations were also present during the inspection.

Mishra personally assessed the quality of cleanliness and tent arrangements and interacted with devotees to take feedback on the facilities.

Later, while talking to the media, Mishra said that the previous government had banned performing Chhath Puja on the banks of Yamuna for many years. False cases were also registered against the devotees who went to perform the rituals.

“But now, times have changed. This year, grand celebrations are being organized on the banks of river Yamuna. It is not only a symbol of faith but also a testament to the positive change and cleanliness achieved at the ghats,” he said.

He said that this year Chhath Puja is being celebrated on a historic scale in Delhi. He said, “The Aam Aadmi Party is protesting today over the cleaning of the Yamuna, but they themselves were in power for 11 years. We have been in government for just 7 months, and what they could not do in more than a decade, we have accomplished in such a short time. The transformation along the banks of the Yamuna is visible to all. This transformation reflects the devotion and hard work of the people of Delhi.”
