'Election interference at its worst': Trump on New York's trial of gag order

Donald Trump on Tuesday lashed out at a New York judge for extending a gag order preventing the former US president from attacking those involved, calling it “election interference” ahead of November’s presidential election.

A New York judge presiding over Trump’s trial over alleged pre-election hush money payments to porn stars on Monday expanded a gag order against him to include comments about a district judge and the family of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

The move comes after the Republican presidential candidate blasted Judge Juan Mercand and his daughter in a series of posts on Truth Society.

Trump wrote on his Truth social platform: “I just learned that another corrupt New York judge, Juan Mercan, has gagged me so that I cannot talk about the corruption and conflicts that occur in his court. .”

“They can talk about me but I can’t talk about them??? That sounds fair, doesn’t it?

“The worst election interference ever!”

Merchant said in Monday’s order that Trump’s “pattern of attacking family members of the presiding judge and attorney presiding over his cases serves no legitimate purpose.”

“This will only create fear in those assigned or asked to participate in proceedings, as not only they, but their families, will become ‘fair game’ for the defendants’ vitriol.”

Trump faces accusations of falsifying business records, alleging that his lawyer Michael Cohen paid porn star Stormy Daniels in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election to ensure she would not publicize sexual encounters.

The case will begin on April 15, marking the start of the first-ever criminal trial against a former president.

When reporters asked him if he would be willing to testify, Trump said “there would be no problem testifying.”

Trump currently faces four criminal indictments and 88 felony charges on a variety of charges.
