Harmeet Desai took the Indian men’s team into the pre-quarterfinals by winning the decisive fifth match, while the women’s team reached the last-16 stage of the World Table Tennis Team Championships with a comfortable 3-0 win in Busan, South Korea on Wednesday. . The men’s team had to work hard to beat Kazakhstan 3-2, but the women’s team had an easier day as they defeated Italy 3-0 to advance to the next round. The men’s team will now take on the mighty South Koreans while the women will take on Chinese-Taipei on Wednesday.

In the women’s category, Sreeja Akula defeated Nicoletta Stefanova 12-10, 11-6, 11-8, while Manika Batra defeated Giorgia Pikolin 12-10, 11-6, 11-5.

Ayhika Mukherjee leveled the score with a 15-13, 11-9, 13-15, 11-8 win over Gaia Monfardini.
