New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said before 2014, there was talk about how India would cope with global headwinds, but in the last 11 years, we have defied all odds, moved out of the ‘fragile five’ economies into the top 5 and are on the way to becoming the third largest economy.
Starting his much-awaited address at the ‘NDTV World Summit 2025’ here with the message ‘Happy Diwali to all’, the Prime Minister said that 11 years ago India was in policy paralysis.
PM Modi said, “But India faced every challenge and today the world respects us.”
The Prime Minister further said that there are many obstacles across the world at this time, and the theme of the summit – Invincible India – becomes relevant.
The Prime Minister lauded India’s growth in the artificial intelligence (AI) sector, saying Google’s latest $15 billion investment to make the country a global AI hub is “a milestone in its development”.
He said that India’s average growth has been 7.8 percent.
PM Modi said, this week the merchandise export figures came out and India’s exports have increased by about 7 percent.
Despite punitive tariffs imposed by the US, India’s merchandise exports in September grew 6.75 per cent to $36.38 billion compared to the same month last year. Exports in September were also higher on a month-on-month basis than August’s figure of $35.1 billion.
He said, “S&P upgraded India’s credit rating after 17 years. Today huge investments are being made in green energy and semiconductor sectors. IMF has given a boost to India’s growth. UK PM Keir Starmer came to India with his largest trade delegation. This showed that the world sees opportunity in India. The world sees India as a responsible partner.”
“India has proved everyone wrong. Today, 50 per cent of the world’s digital transactions happen in India. India’s UPI dominates global digital payments. India has outperformed every estimate. This is India’s moment,” PM Modi highlighted.
