Kohima/Agartala, 19 September (IANS) World Bamboo Day was celebrated in northeastern states, which was exposed as “green gold” of the region and emphasized the need for better use.
The World Bamboo Day was observed on 2025 at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Center, in Chumoucadema, “Next Generation Bamboo: Solutions, Innovation and Design”.
Completing the phenomenon, Development Commissioner, Temsunaro Air described the bamboo as the “green gold” from Nagaland and other states of the region, which highlights its deep cultural, ecological and economic importance.
He urged the stakeholders to maintain this legacy with pride and responsibility, keeping in mind the role of bamboo in food, shelter, crafts, art and livelihood.
AIR also emphasized the need for permanent practices, citing rapid growth of bamboo, carbon absorption and soil conservation benefits, making it a strong partner in the fight against climate change.
The officer also appreciated the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) for promoting bamboo-based enterprises, training artisans and supporting self-help groups.
He said that products such as handicrafts, furniture, sunlight, blind, mats, and bamboo shooting are recognized, turning Nagaland into a hub for bamboo industries.
As part of the celebration, AIER announced the upcoming state -of -the -art sugarcane and bamboo technology park at the Nagaland Bamboo Resource Center, which will serve as a center for research, training and production.
A week training program for 26 artisans was also started to enhance their skills in bamboo design, manufacturing and price joints.
Certificates and machinery were distributed to the trainees, and the bamboo entrepreneur award was presented to Bukhio Khiyamnagan. On this occasion, a special publication titled “Facilitating is to Doing Business: Removal of Completion Burdance” in Bamboo Sector in Northeast India was also released in collaboration with the Indian Industry (CII).
