New Delhi, Oct 19 (IANS) Activating more than 2,000 Anganwadi centers in tribal areas has earned the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MWCD) the award for outstanding contribution in the Pradhan Mantri Tribal Adivasi Nyay Maha Abhiyan (PM Janman), an official said on Sunday.
Making Anganwadi centers functional has empowered communities at the last mile, especially in Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) areas, the WCD ministry said in a post on Twitter.
The award was received by MWCD Secretary Anil Malik from President Draupadi Murmu during the National Conference on ‘Aadi Karmayogi Abhiyan’ organized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs in Delhi on October 17.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched PM Janman on November 15, 2023 for the socio-economic development of 75 PVTG communities living in 18 states and one Union Territory.
The mission aims to provide basic amenities to improve their socio-economic conditions, such as safe housing, clean drinking water and education, improved access to health and nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, electrification of un-electrified households and sustainable livelihood opportunities in three years.
These objectives are being achieved through 11 interventions implemented by nine ministries. The total budgetary outlay of PM Janman is Rs 24,104 crore (Central share: Rs 15,336 crore and State share: Rs 8768 crore).
According to a document from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the camps have been organized in coordination with state governments, with an aim to create awareness and facilitate preparation of basic documents like Aadhaar card, caste certificate, Jan Dhan bank account, which are required to avail benefits under various schemes including Ayushman card, PM Awas and MNREGA.
Earlier, speaking at the Tribal Conclave, the President said the government has taken several concrete steps to ensure overall development of tribal communities.
He said that the real progress of the country and society lies in the development of all sections of the society.
The President said the Government’s efforts are aimed not only at providing financial assistance to the tribals but also at providing opportunities for equal participation in education, health, employment, technical skills and governance.
He also presented awards to the best performing States, Districts, Blocks and Integrated Tribal Development Agencies at the function held in Delhi.
The President said, “This conference reflects our national resolve to make governance truly participatory, inclusive and based on people’s participation.”
