London:
A British-born woman who traveled to Syria as a schoolgirl to join Islamic State lost her appeal to have her British citizenship revoked on Friday.
In 2019, the British government stripped Shamima Begum of her citizenship on national security grounds, shortly after she was discovered in a Syrian detention camp.
Begum, now 24, argued the decision was unlawful in part because British officials failed to properly consider whether she was a victim of human trafficking, an argument rejected by a lower court in February 2023.
London’s Court of Appeal dismissed her appeal on Friday, following an appeal filed in October.
