A frightening scene in a high-growing apartment building near Jane Street and Wilson Avenue emerged after a large part of a concrete overnight, injuring a person and damaging several vehicles.
The incident occurred at around 2 pm on 170 chocuffs drives in northern York.
According to Toronto Fire Services, a mejenine-style umbrella on the entrance of the building gave way, crashed down on the pickup and drop-off area. The collapsed structure measured about 30 feet and was about one inch thick.
In the 30s, a woman was rushed to the hospital with non-janleva injuries. Toronto police say that the falling concrete also killed a standing vehicle.
“It fell in less than two seconds,” an eyewitness and a woman’s friend who was injured. “My friend could barely talk. He was taken to an ambulance. I was the one who pulled him [out]If I did not, she would have died there. ,
Greenwin, the property manager, issued a statement to Citynues, reading in the part, “Before today, a section of the outer canopy collapsed above the entrance of the building on 170 chocuffs drives. Emergency services quickly responded, and once their work was completed, the area was cleaned and safe.”
“Residents are being redirected to an alternative entrance, while we arrange repair. Security remains our top priority, and the management is closely looking at the situation to ensure that everything is addressed immediately,” the statement continued.
Drone footage and eyewitness accounts are being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
