Kolkata, October 20 (IANS) Police have arrested a woman for possessing weapons in Raghunathganj area of Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The officers provided this information.
On Sunday, five semi-automatic 7 mm pistols and 24 rounds of cartridges were found from the woman’s bag.
The woman was arrested from the bus stand going to Farakka in Umarpur area.
Police said that the arrested woman has been identified as Sadhna Halder.
His house is in Krishnapur village of Lalgola police station.
According to police sources, Sadhana had planned to collect weapons from the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) area of Farakka and smuggle them to Sagarpara area of Murshidabad.
After receiving information from a reliable source, Raghunathganj police station was already on the lookout.
As per the plan, when she was changing the car in Umarpur, the police surrounded her.
Sadhna was arrested after weapons were recovered from her.
A senior Jangipur police officer said, “Acting on a tip-off, we were searching for this woman. Today, she was about to carry out arms smuggling. She came out of a car and was about to board another car when our officers caught her. A pistol and cartridges were recovered from her shoulder bag. She has been arrested. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act. We are investigating the matter.”
Before the 2026 assembly elections, there are allegations of increase in arms smuggling in different parts of the state.
Raghunathganj police has described the recovery of five weapons as a big success.
Officials are investigating whether the arrested woman is involved in any arms smuggling gang or not.
The police will interrogate him and try to find out.
Police said that the arrested woman will be presented in Jangipur court on Monday.
The police took the arrested woman into their custody.
Police are investigating whether the woman had any accomplice.
