Sikar (Rajasthan), Oct 11 (IANS) A mother and her four children were found dead inside their flat in Rajasthan, police said on Saturday, adding that it is suspected that the woman, identified as Pinky Chaudhary (45), consumed poison after allegedly giving it to her children.
The horrifying discovery came when a foul smell started emanating from the flat, prompting worried neighbors to inform the police.
Officials of Sadar Police Station reached the spot and after breaking the door, found all five bodies lying in the same room.
The condition of the bodies showed that the deaths had occurred three to four days earlier.
According to the police, the deceased children include Sumit Chaudhary (18), Sneha (15-16), younger son of 4-5 years and the youngest child of about one and a half years.
The family had been living in the flat for the past few years and had reportedly not moved out for several days, which made the neighbors suspicious.
On receiving the information, Sikar Superintendent of Police Praveen Nayak reached the spot along with Nunavut Additional Superintendent of Police Gajendra Singh Jodha, DSP Suresh Sharma and Sadar Police Station Incharge Inder Raj Marodia.
Officers who entered the residence were faced with a grim scene as all five bodies were found in the same room, with signs of decomposition visible nearby.
Initial investigations have suggested poison consumption as the cause of death, although police have not ruled out other possibilities pending the completion of the forensic report and post-mortem examination.
The bodies have been sent to Sikar District Hospital for post-mortem and a detailed investigation is being conducted to find out the circumstances that led to the tragedy. The incident has created panic and grief in the local community, with residents expressing grief over the death of an entire family.
Police officials said efforts were being made to trace the family members and gather more information about possible financial or personal troubles that led to the extreme step.
