This year’s Wolf Supermoon will appear in clear skies across much of the UK.
Visibility was good, but for many people admiring the first full moon of the year, also known as the Wolf Moon, it was cold.
According to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, the name was inspired by the howls of hungry wolves in mid-winter as they search for food.

Others captured it looming over the Thames Estuary in Glasgow and Cathedral, Scotland, kentsoutheast England.
The Royal Observatory in Greenwich said the Wolf Moon will be at its fullest around 10am on Saturday.
Temperatures fell below freezing for many overnight and were still around 0C at 10am.
The weather is getting warmer in southwest England and west Wales, with temperatures reaching 4 degrees Celsius at the top of the moon in some places.
This is a supermoon, which occurs when the full moon is near the point in its orbit closest to Earth – meaning it appears 14% larger and 30% brighter than when it is furthest away.
Jesse Lee, astronomer Royal Observatory Greenwich“Each full moon of the year has its own unique nickname,” Friday said.
“January’s full moon is often called the Wolf Moon, a name inspired by the wolves believed to roam the long winter nights.”
She added: “You don’t need any special equipment or escaping light pollution to enjoy this view, it’s a beautiful sight whether it’s in the city or the countryside.”
