New Delhi, Nov 9 (IANS) President Draupadi Murmu on Sunday greeted the people of Uttarakhand on the silver jubilee of the state’s Foundation Day and hailed their “unique contribution” to the country’s “glorious spiritual and cultural journey”.
Uttarakhand, often called Devbhoomi (Land of the Gods), became the 27th state of India on 9 November 2000 by separating from Uttar Pradesh.
As Uttarakhand celebrates 25 years of its formation, the day is celebrated as a tribute to its journey from a mass movement to a model of balanced development, faith and modernity.
“On this historic occasion of the silver jubilee of the formation of the state, I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to all the residents of Veer Devbhoomi Uttarakhand,” President Murmu said in a post on Twitter.
She said, “Uttarakhand region has made a unique contribution to the glorious spiritual-cultural journey of our country. In the last 25 years, the hardworking and humble people of the state have created new dimensions of modern development. I wish a bright future for all the residents of Uttarakhand.”
Marking the silver jubilee of the formation of Uttarakhand, leaders across the country extended wishes and reflected on the state’s journey from struggle to development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also arrived and extended hearty greetings to the people of the state.
He said, “On the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Uttarakhand, I extend my hearty greetings to all my brothers and sisters of the state. Today, our Devbhoomi situated in the lap of nature is gaining a new pace of progress in every field including tourism.”
The Prime Minister said, “On this special occasion of the state, I wish happiness, prosperity, good fortune and good health to the humble, hard-working and God-like people here.”
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, in a detailed post on Twitter, called the day a “silver jubilee of struggle, values and dedication”.
Paying tribute to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, under whose leadership the state was created, he said, “His vision and sensitive leadership gave a new identity to Devbhoomi.”
Highlighting the achievements of the double-engine BJP government, Dhami said Uttarakhand has made “remarkable progress in connectivity, infrastructure, industry, tourism, education, health and women empowerment”.
He emphasized that the state’s development model balances “environmental protection and progress”, and has ranked Uttarakhand among the top states in the Sustainable Development Goals Index.
Dhami also mentioned the success of the government’s tourism initiatives like Char Dham Yatra, Kanwar Yatra and temple redevelopment projects, which have given “a new identity” to the state.
He said a record industrial investment of Rs 3.5 lakh crore has been secured, of which more than Rs 1 lakh crore has already been realised.
Extending his wishes, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath posted on Twitter, “Hearty congratulations and best wishes to the residents of Uttarakhand on the foundation day of the sacred land of ancient traditions. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, this state is becoming empowered, safe and prosperous.”
He prayed to Baba Kedarnath, wishing for the continued progress of the “Crown Jewel of India”.
