Bhubaneswar, Nov 10 (IANS) The winter session of the Odisha Assembly is scheduled to begin on November 27 with the address of President Draupadi Murmu.
Notably, Draupadi Murmu had served two terms as a member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly between 2000 and 2009 from Rairangpur Assembly constituency in Mayurbhanj district, before assuming the office of the President of India.
He also held various departments such as Commerce and Transport, and Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Department during the same period.
This will be his first address in the Odisha Assembly after assuming the office of President.
According to Assembly sources, the fifth session of the 17th Odisha Assembly will have 29 working days and will end on December 31.
As per schedule, the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure (Budget) for the 2025-26 financial year will be presented in the House on November 28.
Subsequently, the Appropriation Bill relating to the First Supplementary Statement of Expenditure will be tabled and introduced in the Assembly on December 8.
Once passed, it will authorize the state government to withdraw the additional funds sanctioned from the Consolidated Fund of Odisha to implement the supplementary allocation.
Political experts claimed that the upcoming winter session of the Assembly is likely to see heated debates on various issues between the ruling BJP and the opposition parties, Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress.
The opposition can corner the state government in the House on issues like violence against women, increasing incidents of crime in the state, investigation report on Rath Yatra stampede etc.
The monsoon session of the Assembly, originally scheduled for seven working days, was adjourned sine die on September 24, a day before its planned conclusion, amid heavy uproar from opposition parties.
