Two planes collided on the Heathrow runway on Saturday, damaging their wings.
The empty Virgin Atlantic 787 struck the wingtip of a British Airways Airbus A350 as it was being towed from a parking bay in Terminal 3.
A video showed minor damage to the aircraft, emergency services and ground crew on the runway.
A Virgin Atlantic spokesman said there were no passengers on the towed aircraft.
The aircraft was taken out of service and engineering teams were conducting maintenance checks, they said.
“We have begun a full and thorough investigation.
“The safety of our customers and crew is always our top priority.”
A spokesman for Heathrow Airport said no passengers were injured.
“We do not anticipate any ongoing impact on airport operations,” they added.
Towing services are provided by a ground handling company contracted by Virgin Atlantic.
A British Airways spokesman said the airline’s aircraft was stationary at the time of the collision.
“Our engineering teams are evaluating our aircraft and we have offered replacement aircraft to limit the impact to customers,” they said.
