Omar Abdullah.

The “One Nation, One Choice” proposal has been approved by Modi’s cabinet and is now likely to introduce a bill in this regard in the winter session of Parliament. Most opposition parties have declared their opposition to the One Nation, One Election bill, but the Jammu and Kashmir ruling party’s National Conference has reacted slightly differently to the bill. He said the national conference would decide whether to support or oppose the bill before voting.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said that the One Nation, One Choice policy has been approved by the Cabinet but is yet to be tabled in the Parliament. This issue requires detailed discussion.

He said the fate of “one nation, one election” should not be like that of Article 370 and the bill to convert (Jammu and Kashmir) into a union territory. We tell you that in 2019, after an hour or two of discussion, the amendment to Article 370 was passed.

CM Omar, on the other hand, defended his decision to revive the Darbar initiative, an age-old practice whereby the government transfers administration between Jammu and Srinagar every six months. The practice, started by Dogra rulers about 150 years ago, was stopped by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in 2021.

The chief minister accused the BJP of committing atrocities against the people of Jammu and said his government would correct every mistake committed by the national party. He said, “It was the BJP that blocked Operation Darbar and committed atrocities in Jammu. They have done injustice to the region in every aspect.

Will Congress be included in the cabinet?

Asked about the possibility of expanding the size of his cabinet to accommodate coalition partner Congress, Abdullah said: “That’s about you, that’s my job.” He dismissed opposition criticism of his government, saying, ” We will publish our report card after five years in power,” Abdullah said. “If the opposition has to do something, people empower them. We have been given five years, not five days. Weeks or five months…we will publish our report card after five years.”
