Kolkata, October 15 (IANS) The father of the Durgapur gang rape case on Wednesday said he will soon leave West Bengal and will never return.
Speaking to a section of media persons, the victim’s father requested Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to ensure that his daughter gets justice.
He said, “Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal) remains golden. We are going to Odisha. We will never come back again. I would request Mamata Banerjee to ensure that my daughter gets justice.”
However, he did not say when he would return to Odisha. Sources said, as soon as the victim’s health improves, the family will leave for the neighboring state.
Police have arrested six people in the case of gang rape of a second year medical student. These include the victim’s classmate and male friend, with whom she had gone out of the premises of the private medical college and hospital on that fateful night.
The victim’s father has been blaming his classmate and male friend since the beginning. After being arrested on Tuesday, the male friend was presented in the court on Wednesday. The judge ordered seven days of police custody for him.
Earlier in the day, the father demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident to quickly punish the culprits.
He said, “I came here with a lot of hopes and dreams to make my daughter a doctor. My daughter’s future has been ruined. We will not come here again. If I have done anything wrong, please forgive me. Please try to give justice to my daughter. This is my request.”
Last Friday, a second-year medical student from Odisha was gang-raped by five men in a forest area outside a private medical college and hospital in Durgapur in West Burdwan district. Based on the complaint of the victim, the police had arrested all the five accused in the first case. He is currently in police custody. With the arrest of the male friend, a total of six people have been arrested in the gang rape case.
