“Why were people allowed to go despite consultant?”: J&K Congress chief on cloudburst disasters

Web Desk, 17/08/2025

Tariq Hameed Karr, president of Jammu and Kashmir Congress, has recently called cloudbukes and flash floods “very tragic” in Kishtwar, and raises concerns over laps in preventive measures and rescue operations.

Karra said, “This is a very sad event. We are going to oversee rescue operations. A advice was issued for this 48 hours ago, but the question is that people were allowed to go there even after that … There are definitely some gaps in rescue operations …”
Commenting on a sudden flood in Kathua, he said, “This is a natural disaster, but we need to see if the government and its respective departments are fully prepared, whether rescue operations are happening on time or not.”
In the installment, efforts to restore essential services were focused on. Jammu’s Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar said, “They were very big boulders; they were exploded yesterday. Boulder is being broken. This possibility has been set up rope breakers that some bodies may be trapped under them. Power supply and water supply have been restored.
Meanwhile, seven people have died in a landslide starting with heavy rains, in Katua district. Cloudbers in Kathua, which took place on Saturday and Sunday night, also damaged a railway track, national highway and local police station. Officials said on Sunday that rescue and relief operations are going on in Katua and installment.
After Claudbers and landslides, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Central Government is closely monitoring the situation and assured all possible support. In a post on X, Shah wrote, “Talked with Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir about Cloudbers in Kathua. Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the local administration, and NDRF teams have also been taken to the site. We were forced to support the Modi government.”
The Indian Army is leading the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Border Rhodes Organization (BRO), supported by police and local administration, leading ground operations. (AI)
