A Chickenpox vaccine will be rolled out soon On NHS in England, the government has confirmed.

Chickenpox vaccine – also known as Varisella Jab – will be part of a new combined MMRV (measles, kanthamala, rubella and varichela) vaccine.
This will be introduced in GP practices from January 2026 and is expected to provide protection to about 500,000 children every year.
MMRV will eventually replace MMR, which is introduced to infants in 12 months and 18 months.
This is the first time a protection against another disease has been added to routine childhood vaccination program since 2015.
How to get new chickenpox vaccine
As the new MMRV will become a new standard process, it is taking MMR, it will work in the same way.
currently, Guardian Your GP is invited to bring your child to a jab, and this process will be the same when chickenpox vaccine is introduced to the procedure.
This will become a standard process for all children born after 1 January 2026.
Currently, eligibility criteria for children under 12 months of age are still being assessed, but GPS will still contact the parents, to tell which vaccine their child will be invited to perform.

Gayatri Amirthalingam said: “Most of the parents probably consider chickenpox as a common and mild disease, but for some children, young children and even adults, chickenpox can be very serious, which is a matter of entry into the hospital and sorrow, while rare, it can be fatal.
“It is excellent news that from January next January, we will introduce a vaccine to protect from chickenpox NHS Routine Childhood Vaccination Program – Whatever is, helping prevent it, a bad illness and for those who develop serious symptoms, it can be a life saving.
“Now we have widespread experience from many countries, showing that the vaccine has a good safety record and it is highly effective. The program will really positively affect the health of young children and will also lead to less left nursery and school days.”
