from marine conservationists Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and nature charity Groundwork released 20 special oyster reef cubes made from six tonnes of a seawater-resistant concrete alternative, called Marine Crete, on the coast of Tyne and Wear.
The team is testing the use of native European oysters as ballast to secure them to the seabed – the first time the approach has been deployed on this scale in the UK.
