Why did PM Modi ask Team India to visit at least three schools a year?

PM Modi also sought help from the Indian cricket team in promoting the Fit India campaign to tackle the growing challenge of obesity in the country. The Prime Minister said, “Fit India is the only option. As I have said earlier, please reduce oil consumption by 10% at the time of purchase itself. Please urge girls to adopt the Fit India movement. It will be of great benefit. If you can do anything to promote it, please do.”

In February 2025, the Finance Ministry allocated a record ₹3794 crore to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports for the financial year ending March 2026.

A major portion, i.e. ₹2,191.01 crore, has been allocated to central sector schemes with major Khelo India programWhich includes the Fit India campaign which received ₹1,000 crore.

On November 1 this year, Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya honored cricketer Harbhajan Singh, badminton legend Saina Nehwal and Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty with the title of Fit India Icon.
