Why Apple Watch Series 10 has longer battery life

By | Published | No Comments

The Apple Watch Series 10 will reportedly launch later this year with an upgraded display and longer battery life. The iPhone maker is reportedly changing the way the OLED screen on the Apple Watch Series 10 is made to make the wearable device more efficient, according to Korean publication The Elec. The successor to the company’s Apple Watch Series 9 is expected to arrive in the second half of 2024 alongside the upcoming iPhone 16 series.

electricity company Report (Korean) Apple Watch Series 10 will use a low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED screen and thin-film transistor (TFT) technology. In the current-generation Watch Series 9, the company is reportedly using low-temperature polysilicon (LTPS) technology for all but two switching transistors, which is said to have lower battery efficiency.

This year, the company will reportedly reduce the number of transistors using LTPS technology. As a result, Apple will reportedly only use the less efficient technology on circuits outside the Pixel area and on the few remaining switching TFTs. This means the Apple Watch Series 10 can offer longer battery life compared to its predecessor.

Last month, Bloomberg reported that Apple was abandoning plans to develop in-house screens using microLED technology. Some teams working on display engineering have reportedly been reorganized, while other employees have been laid off from the company. This comes shortly after Apple reportedly shut down its project to develop a self-driving car, which had been in development for nearly a decade.

While Apple’s future smartwatches may not feature microLED screens, the upcoming Apple Watch Series 10 is expected to launch with improved display technology in the second half of 2024. These smartwatches are likely to be launched alongside the iPhone 16 series smartphones, which are expected to be launched in the second half of 2024. Includes four models – iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
