Amid the many uncertainties surrounding Virat Kohli’s selection for the 2024 T20 World Cup, former India batsman Krishnamachari Srikkanth has made a big ruling. Kohli has played just two T20Is in 2024 and many are speculating that the BCCI will not consider him for the upcoming mega tournaments in the United States and West Indies. Srikanth said Kohli is a must-have in the team if India is to win the title. The former India cricketer also slammed the “rumor mongers”.
“No chance. T20 World Cup cannot be without Virat Kohli. He is the one who led us to the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022. He is the man of the tournament. Who is saying all this? These rumor mongers, they Is there no other job? What is the basis of all this chatter? If India has to win the T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli is a must in the team,” Srikanth said on his website Youtube News18 Quote Channel.
Kohli has been out of action since the end of the T20I series against Afghanistan. He also missed the recently concluded five-match Test series against England due to personal reasons.
Ahead of his return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) later this month, there were several reports that Kohli might not be part of the Indian team’s plans for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
“You need someone who can stay there. India need that anchor, be it the T20 World Cup or the ODI World Cup. The Indian team cannot move forward without Virat Kohli. We need Virat Kohli, 100 per cent,” Srikkanth said.
If Kohli steps aside, players like Suryakumar Yadav, Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube They are all players who can be used in the midfield. But, it’s not over yet for Kohli.
It is also believed that Virat’s fortunes could change if he goes on to have an exemplary season with Royal Challengers Bangalore and prove to the selectors that he can perform in the modern T20 format.
