White House press secretary Carolyn Leavitt said in a statement that the victim identified in an email sent by Epstein to co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell was former Mar-a-Lago employee Virginia Giuffre, whom the president previously said was “stolen” by Epstein from his Palm Beach, Florida club.

The White House’s aggressive response to the latest revelations from a tranche of documents turned over to Congress by Epstein’s estate comes on a day when House Speaker Mike Johnson is expected to administer the oath of office to newly elected Representative Adelita Grijalva, the incoming Arizona congresswoman whose swearing-in has been delayed for several months by what Democrats have called a deliberate effort by Trump loyalists to prevent her from adding her signature to the discharge petition.
That petition – a parliamentary ploy to bring legislation to the House floor without the Speaker’s consent – would force a vote on legislation to free the case files from the criminal investigation into the dead child rapist and sex trafficker.
The entire Trump administration was embroiled in a months-long crisis over the Epstein files last summer after the president campaigned for the release of the documents.
In July, the Justice Department and the FBI issued a joint memorandum effectively laying the groundwork for the case, saying no further documents would be released.
The move caused an uproar within MAGA and beyond, as Democrats and rebel Republicans attempted to get the files released.
Trump has repeatedly claimed the entire affair is a “hoax” and has denied any wrongdoing, but the emails made public by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee raise questions about whether he has been candid about his relationship with Epstein.
In emailEpstein wrote that Trump “spent hours at my house” with a sex trafficking victim, and that Trump “knew about the girls…”
Trump did not send or receive any emails, and he has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
But a 2011 message sent by Epstein to Maxwell suggests there may be more to the story.
He wrote that the president is “the dog that doesn’t bark” and said that the victim – whom the White House calls Giuffre – “spent hours with him at my house.”
“That was never mentioned. The police chief, etc., I’m 75% there,” Epstein said.
Maxwell, who is serving several decades in federal prison after being convicted of sex trafficking, wrote in response: “I’m thinking about it.”
In a separate email written during the 2015 presidential campaign, Epstein told Wolff that Trump “definitely … knew about the girls because he asked Ghislain [sic] to stop.”
Giuffre, who died by suicide earlier this year, accused Epstein of trafficking her to a number of powerful and wealthy people, including Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who was stripped of his former titles of Prince and Duke of York earlier this month after it was revealed he had been in contact with Epstein long after he claimed to have broken up with the former sex offender.
