WHO said it will assess the global medical products need on Coldrif syrup after receiving official confirmation from Indian authorities.
At least 20 children have died in Madhya Pradesh due to kidney infection, caused by the consumption of “contaminated” Coldrif cough syrup, state health Rajendra Shukla said.
The minister said a police team from Chhindwara district has gone to Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu to arrest the owner of the company manufacturing Coldriff cough syrup.
“A total of 20 children – 17 from Chhindwara, two from Betul, and one from Pandana – have died,” Shukla said.
On 6 October, the state government suspended two drug inspectors and a deputy director of the Food and Drug Administration, and also transferred the state drug controller.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the deaths and register a case against the Tamil Nadu-based manufacturer of Coldriff cough syrup.
