Mark Sherman disclosed his relationship with late film producer rob reiner In a new memoir.
The 66-year-old composer and lyricist has collaborated with Reiner on several hit films, including when harry met sally, suffering and some good men.
His new memoir, People who don’t mind being happywas written before Reiner was brutally murdered along with his wife Michelle earlier this month. Reiner’s son Nick was charged with both murders.
In an excerpt from a published book peopleSeiman recalled. when harry met sally Director Billy Crystal introduced the musician to Reiner after the director said he was looking for someone who “understood all the criteria of the Great American Songbook.”
Sherman wrote, “Billy, the gentleman that he is, told him, ‘Have I found the right guy for you!'” Billy liked to call me “The Rain Jew,” comparing me to Dustin Hoffman’s character in the movie rain man Because I have the ability to memorize and perform almost any song ever written.

“Some people have photographic memories, but I guess mine is that of a gramophone. I don’t even know how I do it; I just somehow retain every song I hear. What can I say? I’m a human Spotify.”
After successfully collaborating on film scores when harry met sallyNo original work needed, Renner asked Sherman to write score for psychological thriller suffering.
Scheiman reflected that taking on the job made a major difference in his life, writing: “At this point in my career, I was an inveterate addict… On top of that, I smoked before arranging music or writing music and lyrics. I really couldn’t imagine myself being creative without getting high first.
“But suddenly I was scoring the film, which required starting right after breakfast and working throughout the day and into the evening. The score required finding the right tone, rhythm, notes and harmonies to play with the emotion and plot of the film, while figuring out the complex mathematics involved in all of this.

“Not to mention it was the birth of writing music directly to a computer using synthesizers and sequencers, all of which I was learning at the same time.
“By Wednesday of the first week, I realized I couldn’t rate a movie if I smoked a joint before 10 a.m., which would make me want to quit for the day before noon.
“So, I decided to try writing music, doing all the math, pushing all the buttons, and not smoking first. I got through the first day! Then I thought I’d try another day, which led to the second day, and then suddenly it was the weekend. I thought, OK, let me just continue on this path.
“So, thanks to Rob Reiner, I quit weed and got rid of the misconception that I had to do it before I could create.”
Many other stars have paid tribute to Reiner in recent weeks, Jerry Seinfeld says the filmmaker “saved” his hit sitcom.
