Every once in a while, WhatsApp users get a host of new features for a fresh and useful experience. Not long ago, Meta launched the ability to lock chats; this adds an extra layer of security on top of existing device biometrics, preventing others from accessing them.

This has proven to be a useful feature for users, who can now breathe a sigh of relief when Snoopy is around. However, it’s important to note that the same functionality won’t work on your linked device as it’s mobile-specific – leaving you out of luck on other devices. Luckily, WABetaInfo has discovered that WhatsApp is also bringing the chat lock feature to linked devices.

According to reports, when this feature is rolled out, WhatsApp chats will automatically be locked on the linked device when they are locked on the primary device. “Chat lock synchronization across devices ensures selected conversations are always protected from prying eyes, regardless of the device used,” the report adds.

To unlock these chats on a linked device or the main device, you need the password you just set when you locked the chat.

When is it expected to be launched?

WABetaInfo says that the feature was first spotted in the WhatsApp beta with Android version 2.24.4.14 update; however, it is unclear when this feature will be available to the public. The publication notes that the feature is currently under development and will be available in a future app update.
