According to WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is developing an account restrictions feature that will limit a user’s ability to send messages when starting a new conversation. When an account is restricted on the app, users will not be able to start new chats for a set time limit as punishment for specific violations. The new WhatsApp feature is expected to arrive in a future update. However, this feature is still being experimented with, so, the timeline for the official rollout has not been revealed.
While users cannot make new conversions during the restricted time period, they will be allowed to receive messages and respond to existing chats. Therefore, the entire communication on the platform will not be restricted.
How will WhatsApp account ban feature work?
The report highlighted that WhatsApp leverages “automated tools to detect abusive spam-like behaviour”. These tools analyze the frequency of messaging or any automotive form of messaging being used. If any unusual activity is detected the app is expected to ban the WhatsApp account for a certain period so that users can improve their ways of using the app. “This automated detection helps identify accounts exhibiting potentially harmful conduct,” the report said. By restricting accounts rather than banning them outright, WhatsApp aims to provide users with the opportunity to correct their behavior without completely losing access to their data.
