What is expected in the United Nations meeting on an Israeli-Filistin two-state solution, and what not, what not

Web Desk, 28/07/202528/07/2025

The United Nations (AP)-The United Nations General Assembly is bringing high-level officers together this week to promote a two-state solution of the decades-old Israel-Pilstinian conflict, which will keep its people living peacefully in independent countries shoulder to shoulder.

Israel and its close associates are boycotting the two-day meeting, which begins on Monday and will be co-headed by Foreign Ministers of France and Saudi Arabia. Israel’s right-wing government opposed a two-state solution, and the United States has called a “counterprants” for its efforts to end the meeting War in Gaza. France and Saudi Arabia want the meeting to put a spotlight on the two-state solution, which they see as the only viable road map for peace, and start addressing steps to reach there.

The meeting was postponed The four-day meeting of the world leaders was downtroded with a four-day meeting in late June and in the Middle East, including the 12-day war of Israel against Iran and a war in Gaza.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barot said on Sunday on CBS News, “A political process, it was completely necessary to resume the two-state solution process, which is threatened today, is more danger than it is threatened.”

What is useful to know about the upcoming gathering here.

Why two-state solution?

The idea of dividing the holy land goes back to decades.

When the British mandate on Palestine ended, the United Nations Partition Scheme in 1947 conceived to divide the region into Jews and Arab states. Israel accepted the plan, but next year on Israel’s declaration of independence, its Arab neighbors declared the war and the plan was never implemented. Under a 1949 ceasefire, Jordan controlled the West Bank and East Jerusalem and Egypt over Gaza.

Israel captured West Bank, Eastern Jerusalem and Gaza in the Middle East War of 1967. Palestinians searched for those land for the future independent state with Israel, and the idea of a two-state solution based on the 1967 boundaries of Israel has been the basis of peace talks for dating back in the 1990s.

The two-state solution has widespread international support. The argument behind this is that the Israeli population is equally divided between Jews and Palestinians along with Eastern Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza.

The establishment of an independent Palestine will release Israel as a democratic country with a solid Jewish majority and provides his dreams of self -determination to Palestinians.

Now why organize a conference?

France and Saudi Arabia have said that they want to put a spotlight on the two-state solution as the only viable path for peace in the Middle East-and they want to see a road map with specific steps, first To end the war in Gaza.

In a document sent to the members of the United Nations in May, the co-chairman said that the primary goal of the meeting is to identify the tasks by “all relevant actors” to implement the two-state solution-and “solidly and timely commitments to achieve the necessary efforts to achieve this objective through commitments and to raise the necessary efforts and resources immediately.”

Saudi diplomat Manal Redwan, who led the delegation of the country at the preparation conference, stated that the meeting “should have a course chart for action, not reflection.” It should “anchor in a reliable and irreversible political plan that addresses the root cause of conflict and provides a real route for peace, dignity and mutual protection,” he said.

French President Emmanuel Macron has pushed to a two-state solution for a broad movement, in parallel with the recognition of Israel’s right to protect itself. He announced late Thursday night that France will recognize Palestine State Officially at the annual meeting of World leaders at the United Nations General Assembly in late September.

About 145 countries have recognized the state of Palestine. But Macron’s announcement, before Monday’s meeting and in the midst of increasing global anger on strict hungry people in Gaza, starts dying of starvation, making France the most important western power to do so.

What is Israel’s idea?

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the two-state solution on both nationalist and security grounds.

Netanyahu’s religious and nationalist base sees the West Bank as the Bible and historical homeland of the Jewish people, while the Israeli Jews considered Jerusalem to be heavy on their eternal capital. The eastern side of the city is accompanied by the most sacred site of Judaism as well as major Christians and Muslim holy places.

Hard-line Israel like Netanyahu believes that Palestinians do not want peace, citing the second Palestinian rebellion of the early 2000s, and recently withdrawn from the Israeli region in 2005 after Gaza’s Hamas acquisition. Hamas Acquisition led the five wars, including the current and ongoing 21 -month struggle.

At the same time, Israel also opposed the solution of a state in which Jews may lose their majority. Netanyahu’s priority appears to be the status quo, where Israel maintains overall control and Israel has full rights compared to Palestinians, Israel has deepened its control by expanding settlements, and the Palestinian Authority has limited autonomy in the West Bank’s pocket.

Netanyahu condemned Macron’s Palestinian recognition, stating that it rewards terror and the risk of creating another Iranian proxy, such as Gaza. ,

What is Palestinian view?

The Palestinians, which labeled the current system “apartheid”, accused Israel of repeatedly reducing peace initiatives by deeply and threatening to have anxation. This will damage the possibility A embodied Palestinian state And their possibilities for freedom.

Ahmed Mazdalani, a member of the PLO Executive Committee and a close aide of Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas, said the meeting will serve as the preparation of the expected President’s summit in September. The United Nations diplomats said that it would be either in France or on the occasion of a high-level meeting in the United Nations.

Majdlani stated that Palestinians have several goals, first one “serious international political process leads to the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

Palestinians should also need additional international recognition of their state by major countries including Britain. But it is expected that this will happen in September, not in Monday’s meeting, Majdlani said. And they said that they want economic and financial assistance for the Palestinian Authority and seek international support for reconstruction and recovery of Gaza Strip.

What will happen – no more – in the meeting?

All 193 UN member nations have been invited to attend the meeting and a French diplomat said that about 40 ministers are expected. The United States and Israel are the only countries that are boycotting.

The co-chairman has transmitted a result document that can be adopted, and may have some announcements of intentions to identify the Palestinian state. But with the boycott of Israel and the United States, there is no possibility of success and long -running interactions between Israel and Palestinians have been resumed when they end their struggle.

General Secretary Antonio Guterres urged the participants after the meeting that “the two-state solution to keep alive” was announced. And he said that the international community should not only support a solution where the independent states of Palestine and Israel live in peace, but “physically physical to make it.”
