BBC One’s hit reality TV series traitor It’s back…but this time there’s a twist.
exist The 2026 version of the show premieresClaudia Winkleman revealed that the format has changed, but this year’s Renegade wasn’t well received.
In previous years, three contestants were named at the start of each series traitorwho must evade detection until the end of the game to emerge victorious. This time, however, a fourth secret traitor appears, whose identity is unknown even to the three main traitors.
The identity of the secret traitor in the red hooded cloak is also unknown to the audience.
This entrant is also playing against the home team, but is pursuing his own victory – and will have an impact on the game and the three regular Renegades.
In the premiere, three known traitors (Hugo, 51, Rachel, 42, and Stephen, 32) are told about the new twist.
“It’s very annoying and frustrating,” Hugo said.

“The whole point of being a traitor is to have perfect information, and now there’s someone above us in the chain.”
At the end of the episode, the three get their first clue as to the secret traitor’s identity – a shortlist of three true believers from which to choose their first murder victim.
Since the names on the list are James, Nettie, and Maz, it is deduced that these three people cannot be secret traitors.
“It’s kind of demoralizing to have someone else decide who we can and can’t murder,” Stephen said.
