What exactly is the stand-off between the Shiv Sena and the NCP-Congress and how Uddhav Thackeray got caught up in the alliance vortex.

Arun Jain, 22/10/202422/10/2024

Assembly elections are underway in Maharashtra and there is an internal tussle over the seat allocation issue in Maharashtra, Vikas Aghadi. Congress and Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena face to face. There are a total of 36 seats in Mumbai, Nashik and Vidarbha regions, where both parties have staked their claim and no one is ready to concede. Things have escalated to the point where there are speculations of disunity and rebellion within the MVA. However, MVA leaders said it was a shared issue that would be addressed by sitting together. Alliance members will meet again on Tuesday. Here, the new formula was approved after discussions between Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar.

Maharashtra will hold assembly elections for a total of 288 seats. Voting will be held in phases on November 20. Results will be announced on November 23. The three major Vikas Aghadi (MVA) political parties in Maharashtra are the Congress, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and the National Communist Party (Sharad Pawar). For the first time, three political parties are contesting assembly elections together, but a battle for seats has emerged between the Congress and Uddhav Sena. The Uddhav Party and the Congress are believed to be vying for seven seats in Vidarbha each.

How many seats will Congress Uddhav Sena get?

In fact, the Congress gained a huge lead in the Lok Sabha elections. That is why the party is now going full steam ahead in the parliamentary elections. This time Congress is brainstorming on candidate lists for at least 110 seats in the parliamentary elections. While Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena is also in the fray for over 100 seats.

What is the problem between the Congress Party and Uddhav Sena?

After this, the Congress is gearing up to contest 110 seats. Uddhav also demanded 100 more seats. In this case, the question arises, what is left for NCP? How many seats can she win in the election? Because some seats must also be given to smaller allies. The Samajwadi Party is demanding 12 seats. SP Chairman Akhilesh Yadav himself has sent the proposal to India Block.

Congress claims Vidarbha region as its stronghold

Apart from this, there has been a tussle between the Congress and the Shiv Sena on the Mumbai seats so far. Both parties have staked claims on these seats. Similarly, Uddhav Thackeray is also claiming a seat in Vidarbha where there is a fight between the Congress and the BJP. Uddhav’s party also did not have a foothold in these seats. Uddhav’s party, however, argued that the Congress had consistently lost to the BJP in some seats in Vidarbha in the past few elections. Congress, meanwhile, claims that Vidarbha has been its stronghold. Today, she became stronger again.

Competing for the role of older brother?

Experts say the whole fight is about grabbing the biggest seats and thus sending the message that we are the big brother in the league. The fact is, however, that the NCP and Congress have been old allies of the alliance. Congress has always played the role of Big Brother in this alliance. But when the MVA government was formed, the Shiv Sena was the largest party. Based on this, Uddhav first became the chief minister and now hopes to play the role of an elder brother in the Assembly elections.

What does Congress have to say…

Maharashtra Congress chief Ramesh Chennithala said the MVA voters will meet in Mumbai at 3 pm on Tuesday. Here, final consensus on seat sharing will be reached. Earlier, the Delhi Congress Central Election Committee discussed the list of candidates for 63 seats in Maharashtra. The names have not yet been released.

Chennithala said the CEC will hold another meeting on October 25 after getting the seal of approval for seat sharing. Earlier, Congress state in-charge Chennithala met former chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday to discuss the seat-sharing issue.

Congress said screening process for 96 seats has been completed…

Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole said that we have completed the screening process for 96 seats. These seats were discussed today. There will be a screening committee meeting on October 25 and a CEC meeting on the same day and everything will be finalized. Tomorrow Balasaheb will speak to Thorat, Uddhav Ji and Sharad Pawar Ji.

Patole further said that we will talk to Sharad Pawar and Uddhav Thackeray tomorrow. As for the allocation of 30-40 seats, we will find a way.

Shiv Sena says-BJP is spreading chaos

Earlier, Shiv Sena (Uddhav faction) leader Sanjay Raut said that Maha Vikas Aghadi has reached consensus on 210 in Maharashtra. Both Patole and Raut claimed that the BJP was spreading misinformation ahead of the elections.

Raut said that we have reached consensus on 210 seats. This is an important achievement. Our aim is to contest the elections as a united force and we will defeat the forces looting Maharashtra.

Raut said the problem only occurred in 10-12 seats. Consensus has been reached on the remaining seats. Raut opined that there is no doubt that the Congress party has a strong base in Vidarbha, but we also have 4-5 MPs from there. It wouldn’t hurt if we got 1 or 2 seats as well.
