What do you know about the “Tomatina” festival here:
Announced anniversary anniversary
Last Wednesday, held on the last Wednesday of August, the event was inspired by a dining battle among local children, who in 1945 pelted each other with tomatoes.
After becoming an annual tradition, “Tomatina” was briefly banned by Spanish dictator Francisco Franco in the 1950s, a decision was opposed by local people. In the 1980s, the focus of television media was converted into a national program, eventually attracted to an international crowd.
In 2002, Spain officially recognized the festival as an international tourism attraction. Since then, event Has been suspended only twiceIn 2020 and 2021, due to Koronwirus epidemics.
Tomatoes are not edible
The thrown tomatoes are not from crops such as used for food. This is because they are especially grown for the festival, Banol’s deputy mayor Sergio Galarza said.
“If ‘tomatina’ was not present, these tomatoes will not be cultivated because there will be no need for them,” Galarza said.
This year’s supply is from Don Benito, a city more than 5 hours.
Only one rule
There is no team, no points and no referee, but there is a guideline: to avoid injuries, participants are encouraged before the tomatoes bounce (and of course, avoid some more obstruction).
Nevertheless, many people donate swimming glasses and earplugs for safety.
When Columb participated, he said, one of his friends ended the fight with two black eyes. “But I know he is a kind of tall, so perhaps he was a goal,” said Columb.
“You finished,” Galarza said, who was going to the festival before becoming his chief councilor. “Your arms are spoiled, everything is worn by moving forward and all this is worn.”
Columb said that the mash of Projectal leaves the attendees “deep to your ankles in this tomato puree”.
Once the hour is up, marked by the sound of a cannon shot, the crowd reshuffled in a nearby communal rainfall, while the streets of the city are headed. Although stains on fabric are possibly irreversible, citric acid in tomatoes serves as an effective cleaning agent on the pavement. Three to four hours later, the roads are sometimes left cleaner than before.
Other countries have taken inspiration
Similar tomato-flying festivals have been held in Florida, London, Amsterdam, Colombian city of Sutamarchan and, recently, Hyderabad, India.
Nevertheless, the native of the original place of the festival, for Galarza, is synonymous with “Tomatina” Banol, he said.
“The truth is that it is exciting because the year -head, you can see how the ‘tomatina’ grows and develops,” Galarza said, “and you can enjoy a festival that is super full.”
