What did Congress say about Left contesting from Rahul Gandhi's parliamentary constituency Wayanad?

The Congress party has not yet announced its candidate in the constituency.

New Delhi:

With CPI declaring Annie Raja as its candidate from Kerala’s Wayanad, the Congress on Wednesday said it is in alliance with the Left parties in various states, but they have always been opposed to each other electorally in Kerala. And will continue to do so.

The Congress statement comes after CPI general secretary D Raja’s wife Annie Raja was nominated to contest from the crucial Wayanad constituency, the seat currently held by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Asked about Annie Raja’s candidature, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh told reporters, “The Left parties are completely part of the India group. It has always been understood that it would be important to unite the group’s allies in various states, especially Kerala.” Doesn’t stop me from contesting elections against others.” He said, “Congress and the Left are allies in different states, but in Kerala we have always been and will always oppose each other electorally.”

When asked whether Rahul Gandhi would contest against her in Wayanad, Annie Raja had said that each party’s decision is their prerogative and she cannot comment on anything based on speculation.

The Congress party has not yet announced its candidate in the constituency.

The Communist Party of India (CPI), the second largest coalition partner in Kerala’s ruling Left Democratic Front, has announced the names of its candidates for four important seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
