Westjet says hackers managed to get “some data” illegally from their system during a violation more than a month ago.
The Calgary-based airline initially informed the customers of a cyber security incident on 13 June, stating that “sophisticated, criminal third party” had unauthorized access to some of its servers and software systems.
Westjet said without going into detail about that time, “There was no security and integrity of our airline operations at any point,” without going into detail, what was the information.
In an update on Friday, Westjet says that no credit or debit card information or guest user passwords were obtained during the breech, but “some personal and travel-related data, which vary from person to another,” stolen.
“According to the regulatory requirements, Westjet has identified individuals whom we will contact to provide information and assistance about the incident in the coming days,” he said in a statement.
Westjet says that when they have managed to involve the event and implement additional systems and data security measures, they continue to monitor and will take more measures to increase their cyber security protocols.
