WeRateDogs, a beloved social media account, paused its usual exhaustive content this week to share the story of one dog that was allegedly shot By immigration officer.
The account, which has 4.9 million Instagram followers and 1.5 million Facebook followers, shared an article KFOX14 About a Texas family who claims their dog Chop was shot Customs and Border Patrol Agent As they searched his house on 9 September. The account typically rates photos of dogs and shares other light-hearted content, such as fundraisers for sick pets.
The post shared on Wednesday claimed Chopp was shot and killed by “plainclothes masked assailants who were escorted by ICE.” The post mistakenly referenced ICE agents instead of Customs and Border Patrol agents.
“Surprisingly, he didn’t care about helping the family as they tried to save him,” the account reads. “Even more surprising is that they found no evidence of the immigrants they were there to terrorize. Don’t open your doors to these losers. Take it easy.”
The post has received hundreds of thousands of likes Instagram And Facebook,

A KFOX14 story described how Customs and Border Patrol agents came to his El Paso home last month and asked to search him. A man who remained anonymous told KFOX 14 that his son spoke to agents in jeans and a T-shirt, who said they received a tip about his home.
The son said the agents could come inside, but asked if he could put Chop, a Rottweiler, in the bathroom first because he could be aggressive.
After this the agents asked him for ID. When he went in his pickup truck to get it, agents burst into his home, pulled Chop out of the bathroom and shot him, the father told KFOX14.
The family also said that the agents did not provide them with any assistance as they rushed to help the dog when its blood was found on their kitchen floor. He told KFOX14 the agent who shot the dog hid from the family and declined to provide his name.
Agents later revealed that the anonymous information they were investigating was linked to the home’s previous owners, who had lived there two years earlier, the family told the outlet.
A Customs and Border Patrol spokesperson told the outlet in September that it is now investigating the agents’ “use of force.”
“At 7:15 a.m. on September 9, a U.S. Border Patrol agent was involved in a use-of-force incident during an alien smuggling investigation at a residence in El Paso, Texas,” the spokesperson said. “The incident involved a dog. The use of force is currently being reviewed by CBP’s Office of Professional Responsibility in accordance with CBP policies. CBP takes such incidents seriously. We will provide additional information as it becomes available.”
Independent Customs and Border Patrol has been contacted for comment.
