Welsh football club Merthyr Town investigate allegations of racist abuse after Hungerford Town bank holiday match

A football club is investigating allegations of racism following a match on Easter Monday.

Merthyr Town Football Club staff say they are “aware” of the allegations, after Hungerford Town’s manager said one of his players was subjected to racist abuse by a section of the crowd at a non-league match in South Wales , the investigation is “ongoing.”

Danny Robinson said the alleged abuse by some home supporters was “absolutely inexcusable”.

The Hungerford boss added: “I have to say, I blame myself because, to be honest, should we have gone out in the second half? I don’t think we should have done that.

“I should have been stronger and said ‘no’. But the deal is that it goes through Tannoy first and then obviously if it happens again we have the right to leave.”

Robinson said the alleged behavior “damaged a fantastic performance” at Merthyr, which he described as a “top team”. Merthyr won the match 3-0.
