England captain ben stokes As soon as he came in, he was given a warm welcome and was described as “arrogant” Australia Ahead of the Ashes.

A photograph of Stokes pushing a trolley loaded with luggage at the airport was printed on the front page of The West Australian newspaper with the headline ‘Baz Bawl’.

“England’s arrogant captain complainer, still comes in smarting from ‘crease-gate’ Perth Early-thinking dopey ‘baseball’ can take the Ashes,” the subtitle read in reference to an incident in the previous series when Jonny Bairstow was controversially stumped.

The article criticized England’s tactics under Stokes and the head coach Brendon McCullumTerming it as “reckless and reckless batting”.

Australia has announced its team for the first Test starting in Perth from November 21.

Jake Weatherald could make his debut, while Australia have also recalled Marnus Labuschagne.

Opening batsman Weatherald is one of three uncapped players in the squad along with fast bowlers Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett.

Tasmania’s Wetherald or Labuschagne will replace the ruled out Sam Konstas, while injured captain Pat Cummins misses out and there is no place in the group for all-rounder Mitch Marsh or Middlesbrough-born Matt Renshaw.

Constas scored just 50 runs in six innings during the three-Test tour of the West Indies earlier this year, prompting the Australian selectors to look for a new opening partner for Usman Khawaja.

The 31-year-old Wetherold looks set for that position, although Labuschagne, who has made a fine start to the Sheffield Shield season after being dropped after the World Test Championship final at Lord’s, could return.

Steve Smith will captain the team in Cummins’ absence, while Scott Boland may retain his place in the three-man seam attack along with Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Chief selector George Bailey said: “The squad gives us a good balance and 14 of those selected will play in the next round of the Sheffield Shield, we will continue to gather information as we get closer to the start of the first Test.”

Doubts over Cameron Green’s fitness mean the all-rounder may be unable to bowl in the first Test, having bowled only four overs so far during the Australian summer.

This could mean that Beau Webster will retain his spot at sixth, while Green will remain at third. If Green is fit to bowl, Webster could pose a threat to Labuschagne if Wetherald gets the nod to open.
