Jillian Lauren, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shrinerhas spoken for the first time about her deadly encounter with authorities in April in which she was left with a gunshot wound.

Authorities say Lauren opened fire after seeing one of the suspects following a car onto her property, before he allegedly pointed the gun at officers, prompting at least one of them to open fire.

“My world came crashing down around me in a heartbeat,” Lauren said. “It’s like you spend your whole life arranging a deck of cards. And just take them and throw them in the air one day, and I’m still waiting to see how they land.”
He pleaded not guilty in May and was given a two-year mental health exemption in September to avoid jail. Under the agreement, Lauren must remain sober, participate in therapy and not possess a firearm.
“When [mental health diversion] The headlines came out, my joke was, ‘I’m not just a criminal with a gun, now I’m a maniac,'” she recalled. “My PTSD is a very real thing. I am a victim of sex trafficking and domestic violence. …When the headlines said ‘mental health devolution’, I really thought, ‘Okay, cool.’ People are very afraid to talk about this. I’m in a position where I can speak to it.”
Lauren returned to the headlines earlier this month with the news that she and Shriner were divorcing. The duo’s parents announced their decision in a lengthy Instagram post.
