Meanwhile, the air quality in Delhi-NCR remains in the very poor category. The Central Pollution Control Board reports that Delhi’s air quality index (AQI) was 396 as of 7 am today.
Cold wave trend and fog in the northwest
IMD has issued a warning that night minimum temperatures may gradually drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over parts of North India, such as Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states, during the next few days.
According to IMD, a significant drop in temperature is expected in many districts of Uttar Pradesh including Agra, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Varanasi and Aligarh on November 24.
Additionally, cold wave is predicted to hit western districts in the early morning; Farmers have been urged to protect their crops.
Danger of heavy rain in South India and islands
A low pressure area has developed over the Strait of Malacca and surrounding waters, and is forecast to strengthen into a depression over the south-east Bay of Bengal by 24 November. IMD has alerted that there will be heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Union Territories of Andaman and Nicobar Islands from November 22 to 25.
The advisory for today specifically states: “Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Andaman and Nicobar Islands; heavy rainfall over parts of Lakshadweep.” Strong winds and rough waves are predicted along the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and surrounding waterways.
There will be a sudden drop in temperature in Delhi-NCR
According to the Weather Bureau, there will be a huge drop in temperature in Delhi-NCR next week. The minimum temperature is expected to remain below 10 degrees Celsius, while the highest temperature will probably be measured at 25 degrees Celsius. The national capital and surrounding areas are under Phase III of the Graded Response Action Plan by the Air Quality Management Commission due to poor air quality.
Sky will be mainly clear in West Bengal
The immediate weather picture for West Bengal is stable, with the IMD predicting generally clear skies for the coming week, despite a clearly defined low pressure area over the remote Strait of Malacca and South Andaman Sea intensifying.
Despite the rising pressure over the south-eastern Bay of Bengal, there is no weather warning for the next seven days in West Bengal.
