The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Gujarat as a depression over the east-central Arabian Sea is moving closer to the state. According to the latest IMD bulletin issued on November 1, moderate rainfall is also likely over many parts of Maharashtra and Goa.

According to the weather office, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places over parts of Gujarat, North Konkan, Goa and North Madhya Maharashtra and heavy rain at some places.

“Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) is very likely over Gujarat during the next two days,” the IMD bulletin said.

The impact of Cyclone Montha is still likely to be felt in eastern India. It has been raining continuously in West Bengal for the last few days. Light to moderate rain is also likely over many parts of the state on Saturday, November 1, especially over North Bengal. IMD has predicted light to moderate rain or thunderstorm in Kolkata.

The IMD has also issued an alert for the Northeast and heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of eastern, central and western India. There is also an alert for strong winds and rough seas for coastal areas.

Gujarat and neighboring areas

According to the IMD, Gujarat is expected to receive above normal rainfall in November, breaking the region’s usual dry spell during this time of the year. This improved rainfall forecast is being helped by a weak depression which is moving towards the Gujarat coast over the east-central Arabian Sea.

Officials are on high alert as the weather system is predicted to cause heavy rains and strong winds in parts of Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Bharuch and Surat. Residents living in coastal and nearby districts should be cautious of irregular rainfall and strong winds.

The depression over the east-central Arabian Sea moved east-northeastwards, weakened into a marked low pressure area and lay centered over the east-central and adjoining north-east Arabian Sea at 0530 hrs IST today, 1 November 2025.

Southern states

Despite above normal rainfall in October, drier than normal weather is forecast for the region during the first half of November. The primary reason is the ongoing influence of the La Niña pattern, which reduces rainfall in this area of the peninsula. Rain-related disruptions to outdoor and water-dependent activities may be reduced.

eastern india

The IMD has predicted that Kolkata will receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers on November 1. In its recent advisory, the weather agency said there is a high probability of light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many places in East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Howrah and Kolkata districts of South Bengal.

The weather office said that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall (07-11 cm) at one or two places in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri districts of North Bengal. Yellow alert has been issued for East Midnapore, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Howrah and Kolkata in South Bengal as well as Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri in North Bengal.
