The IMD has predicted scattered rain over the Western Himalayan region, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Lakshadweep and islands for the next three days.
Meanwhile, isolated thunderstorm and lightning is also likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands on December 26 and 27.
Orange alert of fog in UP, Bihar
The IMD issued an orange alert for dense fog in Punjab, Haryana, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, along with persistent cold day conditions in Bihar. Additionally, yellow alert for fog is in effect for Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand and northeastern states.
IMD has predicted dense to very dense fog during night and morning over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh till December 29. Similar situation is expected to remain in Uttarakhand till 28th December and in Madhya Pradesh till 25th December.
Additionally, dense fog is likely over parts of Bihar, Jammu division, Himachal Pradesh and isolated areas of Odisha till December 25 (and again between December 26 and 28) during night and morning hours till December 28. Similar conditions are likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Jharkhand till December 25 and over Northeast India till December 26.
There is an alert of cold days in different areas of Bihar from 24 to 28 December.
There is dense fog in Delhi
Dense fog has engulfed Delhi, reducing visibility, disrupting flights and road traffic and worsening the already severe air quality. On Wednesday, the IMD predicted mainly clear skies for Delhi with light fog at many places and moderate fog at isolated places during the morning hours.
According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the overall AQI at 9 am was 336, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.
