The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall with thunder, lightning and gusty winds over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh till February 2.

Similar conditions are likely to peak over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and West Uttar Pradesh on February 1, while Uttarakhand may experience extended activity till February 3.

The IMD on Saturday issued an orange alert for parts of Rajasthan, warning of rain with hailstorm and thunderstorm.

Yellow alert is in effect in Jammu and Kashmir for scattered to widespread rain and snowfall with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds on Saturday. Meanwhile, yellow alert of dense fog has also been issued in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha and Sikkim.

According to the IMD, a series of three western disturbances are set to disrupt the weather patterns across the country in the next few days. Between January 31 and February 3, two consecutive systems will cause light to moderate rain and snowfall over the western Himalayan region, while scattered rain will occur over the plains around northwest and central India.

After this activity, a third disturbance is expected to affect northwestern India from February 5 to February 7.

The weather department has predicted isolated light rain with thunderstorm over East Uttar Pradesh on February 2 and East Madhya Pradesh on February 2 and 3.

Yellow alert for Delhi

Saturday, January 31, was a cold, foggy morning in Delhi with the temperature dropping to around 6 degrees Celsius. The weather agency issued a yellow alert for the national capital during the weekend, warning of light rain, thunderstorms and possible dense fog.

According to IMD, the maximum temperature in Delhi is expected to be between 10 to 22 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 6-8 degrees Celsius.

“Partly cloudy sky likely, generally cloudy till afternoon/evening. Moderate fog at many places, dense fog at isolated places during morning, very light rain with thunderstorm/lightning/strong winds (speed up to 30-40 kmph) likely at night,” it said.

Light rain expected in Karnataka

According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of cold morning and light rain in Karnataka for the next two days. Coastal places are expected to remain warm, but interior areas like Bengaluru may continue to experience cold nights.

Mangaluru and Udupi may experience hot temperatures of 31°C and 22°C respectively, while Shivamogga may see temperatures around 31°C during the day and 17°C at night.

Temperature may drop in Bengaluru

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru is experiencing severe cold with a minimum temperature of 17 degrees Celsius. Similar weather is expected for the next few days, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 29 degrees Celsius. No weather related warning has been issued.
