The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that conditions remain favorable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from large parts of central and eastern India in the next two to three days.

It includes the entire states of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh along with the remaining areas of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

IMD said in the weather bulletin that partial withdrawal is also expected from areas of West Bengal, Sikkim, Odisha and Telangana.

Heavy rain across South India

According to the IMD, increased rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is likely to continue over the southern peninsula for the next four to five days.

States like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to receive moderate to heavy rainfall, especially between October 12 and 17.

The weather agency said light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur over Tamil Nadu and Kerala during October 12 to 17.

Strong surface winds up to 40 kmph are also expected over parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

Cyclonic impact and advice to fishermen

The IMD said the remnants of cyclonic storm ‘Shakti’ are affecting the weather patterns over the west-central Arabian Sea.

Additional upper air cyclonic circulations are active over Assam, south Bangladesh, Andhra Pradesh and the southern Arabian Sea, contributing to regional rainfall and thunderstorms.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into west-central Arabian Sea and along and off coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep on October 12 and 13 due to rough sea conditions.

Sky will remain clear in Delhi-NCR

For Delhi-NCR, the IMD has predicted mainly clear skies till October 14.

The day temperature is likely to be between 29 to 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be between 18 to 21 degrees Celsius. According to IMD, both are slightly below normal for this time of the year.

The weather department also said that the predominant surface wind is likely to blow from north-west direction at a speed of 15 kmph during the afternoon.

In the coming days, the weather is expected to remain pleasant in the capital due to light winds and no rain.
