"We want women to have Trust in Police": Dig Shridhar Patil on 'Bharosa' Initiative in Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban

Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban (DKR) Range, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Sridhar Patil on Saturday said that the purpose of trust initiative is to build a trust between women and police.

Speaking to ANI, Dig Patil said that the program includes specially trained women officers who have been posted in every police station, which are to provide support and consultation, especially for victims of harassment and mental health challenges.

“The government is sensitive about the safety of women. The Doda-Kishtar-Ramban area is very remote, and the women here are reluctant to come forward with their complaints. To solve it, we took an initiative and gave it the name of ‘trust’ because we want women to have confidence and faith in the police …” He said.

“We trained a special section of women police officers to address women in this area … We want women to act as a symbol of faith for women near them. If they face any harassment at home or in the workplace, women should contact their nearest police station or dial to police helpline. They are ready to hand over a lot of adoles.”

Police Deputy Superintendent Tania Sharma highlighted that the ‘trust’ initiative of the Jammu and Kashmir Police is also focused on focusing on the women to educate their legal rights and break the stigma that visits the police station.

“This initiative is taken by Dig DKR Range … Women should be aware of criminal laws and how BN and other laws are made sensitive … Women have a myth that it will not be good if they go to the police station, and we should not break this myth … A lot of things have been started by the government and the National Commission,” said Sharma.

In a historic step to protect women in policing and strengthen public confidence, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday launched a trust in the DKR range under Deeg Sridhar Patil in the DKR range. The broader program aims to address the under-reporting of crimes and raise awareness about women’s rights, especially in rural and semi-urban areas.

According to an official release, a three-day capacity-making program was organized in collaboration with the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai, which trained 95 women police personnel in gender sensitizing, effective complaint dealing and community engagement strategies.

As part of its broad outreach efforts, 94 awareness programs have been organized, benefiting more than 4,400 individuals, stated in the release.
The release said the reaction system has been strengthened through 24 × 7 women’s helpline (112), JK Police ECOP app and rapid response teams.

On the empowerment front, more than 4,700 people have benefited from cyber awareness and legal aid initiative. In an important step, police officers are also reaching remote areas to educate people, especially women, adding direct awareness to their doors, and adding the release.

The initiative has led to a significant increase in crime reporting, improvement in public trusts in police services, and adoption of advanced technology including AI-managed monitoring and GPS-SAC patrol.

This has introduced significant reforms, including digitized FIR system, an e-FIR facility, SOP for crimes against women and enforcement of the posh Act, which further added. (AI)
