Karur, September 30 (IANS), an eight-member NDA delegation led by BJP MP and actor Hema Malini arrived in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, to study the circumstances that led to a rally in Karur in the rally of TVK chief Vijay on 27 September, where 41 people-including women and children, went and more than 60 injured.
The delegation, former Union Minister of India Anurag Thakur and MP, met BJP national president JP Nadda before submitting a report from the affected families, local authorities and survivors.
Talking to reporters at Coimbatore Airport, Hema Malini expressed deep condolences and said that the team’s purpose was to understand whether it was wrong and recommended measures to stop such tragedies.
Anurag Thakur said that the MPs will interact with the families of the injured, deceased and local authorities. He said, “We pray for early recovery of hospitalized people. There is no hurry for us – we want to meet everyone, find out what went wrong and make sure that such an incident never happens again,” he said.
Tamil Nadu BJP leader, including former state president. Annamalai and current chief Nanar Nagentharan are with the NDA team.
Annamalai said on his X, “Our BJP4India National President Thiru JPNADA AVL, an 8-member committee appointed by Avl, assessed a detailed on-top of the incidents, which caused a stampede in Karur during the TVK rally and talked to many people who saw the tragedy.”
Karur’s stampede occurred when a large -scale crowd moved forward after Vijay’s speech, triggering nervousness and a deadly crush in the crowded site. The tragedy shocked the state and the country, in which scenes of unhappy families broadcast widely.
Chief Minister MK Stalin, who took relief measures and announced compensation, “described the incident as an unimaginable tragedy, causing deep pain”.
He promised that the government would work on the findings of the single-SUS Commission under the leadership of retired judge Justice Aruna Jagadeson and follow the security guidelines for public functions.
AIADMK General Secretary Edappdi. Palaniswami condemned the deaths and demanded strict accountability. He said, “It is shocking that such an omission can happen in a political rally. The government should fix the responsibility and ensure the safety of the people participating in such events,” he said.
Vijay, who announced a financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh to the families of the deceased, stated that he “broke the heart beyond the words”. The TV leader called for a completely and fair investigation and promised full cooperation with the officials.
The NDA MP will go to the stampede site in Veliyampalam and hospitals, where the injured are being treated before returning to brief the party’s top leadership.
