To help you decide which mince pie to put in your trolley, we conducted an afternoon blind taste test from nine different supermarkets across the UK. Some impressed, some were forgettable but one supermarket really stood out from the rest.

How we tested
We bought nine different mincemeat pies (hard work, we know) from major UK supermarkets. This included premium options from Waitrose and M&S, as well as budget-friendly options from Lidl and Aldi. Each mincemeat pie was taste-tested blindly, and evaluated on flavour, appearance, texture and – an important factor when choosing the best mincemeat pie – filling-to-pastry ratio.

We have to mention these Sainsbury’s Taste The Difference Mince Pies. The ‘all butter’ pastry really lived up to its description – it was rich, golden, and had just the right amount of flavour. Our testers loved the intricate design (perfect for plating at Christmas parties) as well as the rich, brandy-infused filling.
