Bandipora, June 21, KDC: In the light of the ongoing heatwave and increasing water scarcity, Honorable Member of the Legislative Assembly for Bandipora constituency, Nizam Uddin Bhat, presided over a comprehensive review meeting today to assess the functioning of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) region and to discuss immediate measures to strengthen the water supply system of the district.
Conducted at the conference hall of Mini Secretariat Bandipora, the meeting brought together officials of major departments, including PHE Civil, PHE Mechanical, Irrigation Civil, Irrigation Mechanical and Ground Water. A detailed presentation was given by Executive Engineer Jal Shakti, Er. Mutayab Bashir, underlining the situation of ongoing mechanical and irrigation functions with challenges affecting effective service distribution.
MLA Bhat emphasized the immediate need for better coordination between civil and mechanical wings to ensure timely and efficient execution of water -related projects. He urged the departments to prefer areas facing acute drinking water shortage and called rational water distribution, quick leakage and damaged infrastructure such as hand pumps and public tube wells for rapid repair of wells.
“It is a collective responsibility to reduce the water crisis,” the MLA said. “All departments should work together to provide timely relief to people.”
DDC Vice President Kuser Shafiq, who was also present in the meeting, resonated these concerns, which emphasizing the need to gather all the available resources to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply during peak summer months.
A major point of discussion was the disillum of agricultural canals to restore the supply of irrigation to the fields.
The meeting also reviewed the progress of several water supply schemes in both urban and rural parts of the district. MLA sought clarity on pending components and directed that the proposals of new borewells be immediately presented to expand the water infrastructure of the district.
